Being the Love We Came Here to Be

How many of us go through our days trying to make others proud of us? -trying to please others — parents, spouses, children, coworkers, neighbors, society, God?

Pride is a tricky thing for it is a function of the ego. Striving to make others proud of us means we are seeking validation from somewhere outside of ourselves, making choices according to someone else’s standards, beliefs, and perspectives. This is normal and necessary when we are children trying to figure out this big old world. At some point, though, we must learn how to reparent ourselves.

Consider how much time and energy we spend trying to “fit” into:

  • parental expectations
  • societal norms
  • others’ ideas of beauty and success
  • religious traditions.

What if God Universe is completely neutral, neither approving nor disapproving of the choices we make?

How would it change our experience to consider that we actually cannot get our lives wrong?

What if the person in prison is as important to God/Universe as the homeless person, as the struggling single mom, as the seasoned politician, as the doctor, as the soldier, as the artist, as the corporate CEO, as the celebrity, as the janitor, as the drug addict, as the restaurant server?

What if God/Universe actually desires to experience all things through us? — the comfortable and the uncomfortable, the beautiful and the ugly, the light and the dark?

What if God/Universe actually wants us to be who we came here to be instead of who others want us to be?

What if, in reality, we are the ones that put the labels of good and bad on things, not God?

What if the only purpose in life is to actually LIVE, to experience life for God/Universe??

God is LOVE. Each of us came here as a unique expression of that love to experience life. When we do what we love, we are expressing God in the world.

If it lights us up, that is a pretty good indication that it is ours to do.

If God is love and we are all expressions of God, then doing what we love must be why we are here!

Perhaps it is time to release the anger, the guilt, and the shame we carry around not living up to someone else’s expectations.

Perhaps it is time to live the love that only we can express in the world!!!
